Apex Clean Energy Announces Promotion of Mark Goodwin to President and CEO

Charlottesville, VA – September 1, 2016 – Apex Clean Energy (Apex) today announced the promotion of Mark Goodwin to president and chief executive officer of the company. Goodwin joined Apex in 2009 as chief operating officer and was named president and chief operating officer in 2010.

Apex’s previous chief executive officer, Sandy Reisky, will assume the dual roles of chairman of the board and chief strategy officer and will remain involved in key aspects of ongoing operations.

“Today is a great day for the Apex team, and a good news story several years in the making,” said Reisky. “Mark helped position Apex for success, and in some respects this is really about matching Mark’s title to his increasing responsibilities.”

Apex has achieved a number of milestones in the past 18 months, including being cited as the market leader for new U.S. wind capacity installations in 2015 by Energy Acuity, bringing 1,042 megawatts online, enough clean energy to supply the population of a city the size of Boston or San Francisco each year for the life of the facilities.

Apex also recently closed two transactions, the 147 MW Grant Plains Wind and the combined 217 MW Cotton Plains Wind and Phantom Solar projects. Offtakers for the projects include utilities and corporations, and the latter features the largest-ever renewable power purchase by the U.S. Army.

“It is an honor to assume leadership of Apex as we mature as a rising leader in utility-scale wind and solar generation,” said Goodwin. “As Apex continues to experience significant growth, our greatest strength is the incredible people we have across the enterprise. Together, we are accelerating our nation’s shift to clean energy.”
