Hiring and Diversity
Apex is committed to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce, including (but not limited to) hiring, retaining, and promoting women and people from historically underrepresented groups.
Over the past several years, we have improved on current commitments and forged new ones to support increased standards of representation, education, and accountability across all levels of our business. From celebrating and commemorating the contributions of various groups throughout the year and volunteering in the community to establishing our professional mentorship program and offering a free “Clean Energy Crash Course” to undergraduate students, Apex works throughout the year to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplace.
Apex requires all employees to engage in annual diversity, inclusion, and anti-bias training, in addition to anti-harassment and discrimination training. To ensure a broad range of applicants for our full-time positions, more candidates from underrepresented backgrounds, and a diverse intern program, our HR team engages with a number of strategic partners (below).
From learning to leading
For more than a decade, Apex has run a successful internship program to educate and support talented individuals as they explore working in renewable energy. These summer associates bring a range of skills, passions, and backgrounds that have a tangible impact on Apex’s work and culture—and they’ve gone on to achieve considerable success along various career paths.
Frequently asked questions about jobs at Apex
What is the hiring process typically like?
Once you submit your information, it is shared with the appropriate human resources professional and hiring team. They compare your skills and experiences with the requirements of the position for which you have applied, as well as any other listed position. You will be contacted if you are selected for consideration.
The majority, if not all, of the interview process will be conducted either by phone or virtually, via Zoom. If there will be an in-person element, you will be notified early on in the process. Any and all travel expenses will be covered by Apex as necessary.
Do I have to have a background in renewable energy to work at Apex?
The diversity of profiles is something we pride ourselves on at Apex Clean Energy. Not everyone has a renewable energy background. We have employees who have joined us from a wide variety of industries, roles, and educational degrees. These different backgrounds provide the range of experience we seek to respond to the dynamic renewable energy industry.
What information should I include on my resume?
We want to hear about your latest accomplishments, your strengths, and how specific skills might be applied to the position you’ve applied for. Be sure to highlight your accomplishments in previous jobs—not just your duties. Do you have past projects to share? Include them as attachments or links to give us a better sense of your style.
While your resume may be more than one page, be sure your summaries are succinct and relevant—and that your most important information figures prominently on the first page.
How should I prepare for my interview(s) with Apex?
Review the job description and do a bit of research on the role, team, company, and our mission. Come with a few examples in mind that demonstrate your strengths, any questions you have about the opportunity, and a healthy dose of curiosity.
Do I really need to submit a cover letter?
Yes! That’s why we request one during the application process. Our team really enjoys a great cover letter that helps us get to know you by explaining how your prior experience and successes have prepared you for the role you’re pursuing.
Does Apex hire interns and new graduates?
Yes!
Apex’s goal is to usher in the next generation of renewable energy professionals who will continue the critical work of actualizing our mission: to accelerate the shift to clean energy. Our approach is threefold: we give the interns real-world experience in the industry, offering the chance to work shoulder to shoulder with Apex’s exceptional subject-matter experts; we give them a 360-degree view of how to run a successful renewable energy company by introducing them to each and every one of our team leaders through weekly round table discussions; and we ensure that they are afforded ample social opportunities for establishing and maintaining their professional networks through our staff and their fellow interns. This tried-and-true approach has made for a world-class internship program that has seen thousands of applicants in recent years.
On average, from Apex’s past five intern cohorts, we’ve hired 18% of the students for full-time positions upon their graduation, and we aspire to increase that hiring rate annually.
What if I need a visa?
There are many jobs for which the company might be able to sponsor visas, depending on the requirements of the job and the qualifications of the candidate. Feel free to apply to any jobs you’re qualified for. If the role is appropriate for visa sponsorship and you’re qualified for the job, the recruiter will let you know how to proceed with the interview process.
