Sustainability at Apex
Seeking solutions beyond our core business to lower our collective environmental footprint, maintain a culture of ethics and sustainable systems thinking, and establish innovative ESG practices
Manifesting an adaptive and resilient world will require society to revolutionize many conventional practices—not the least of which is our approach to energy. We must accelerate that transition today, and we must do so with integrity and intentionality.

Our sustainability framework
Apex’s approach to sustainability focuses on three pillars: Our Planet, Our People, and Our Practice. This framework is one of continuous improvement—evolving, adapting, and pushing boundaries to further the transition to a better, more sustainable future.
Our Planet
As part of our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, Apex has taken significant strides toward understanding our impact on the planet and establishing ambitious targets around our operational practices and corporate ethos.
Enhancing conservation through the energy transition
With our core value of sustainability top of mind, Apex strives to not only advance the sustainability of America’s energy system as a whole, but also enhance local ecosystems and habitats where Apex’s projects are developed and operated. That’s why we created the Apex Conservation Grant (ACG) program—a first in the industry.
Apex Plaza: Sustainable from the ground up
Our mass-timber headquarters, which features green building materials, solar power generation, and energy-efficient elements, is on the cutting edge of sustainable design—mirroring our work at the forefront of the new energy economy.
Employee sustainability incentives
Apex is committed to supporting employees’ efforts to contribute to the company mission, even when away from work. It is in this spirit that Apex will provide financial incentives to employees who purchase electric cars, tools, and bikes; install solar panels on their roofs; avoid driving to work; and make their homes more energy efficient.
DriveElectric
Employees who purchase an all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle receive a cash bonus of up to $4,000.
Residential solar
Apexers who install a home solar system (> 2.5 kW) can receive a cash bonus equal to 15% of the total price, up to $4,000.
Parking cash out
Employees who walk or bike to work receive a monthly benefit of $100.
Home energy efficiency
Apex will reimburse employees up to $99 for a home energy audit and up to $250 annually for qualified home energy efficiency upgrades.
Electrify everything
Apexers who buy electric tools or any battery-assisted bicycle will be reimbursed 25% of the price of each, up to $500 per year.
Solar nonprofit grant
Apex will distribute up to four $2,500 grants per year to qualifying nonprofits to be applied to the cost of a solar system for their building.
Our People
By fostering a culture of safety, integrity, and professionalism, and through tangible initiatives, we can contribute to the long-term success of both our company and the communities we serve.
Community Grant Program
Apex works to enhance its renewable energy projects’ economic benefits for rural America, which has not always shared in the economic investment that urban and suburban communities benefit from. One of its community grant beneficiaries is Special Olympics Illinois, and by extension, its athletes—including Rachel Zakutansky.
Our Practice
Given the dynamic nature of the energy landscape, we will proactively address vulnerabilities by refining and fortifying our resiliency framework, systematically integrating resiliency measures and robust contingency plans into our business operations.
Resilience and Ethics
Apex, along with other members of the Clean Energy Buyers Association, established the Principles for Purpose-Driven Energy Procurement, which advance power purchasing standards to integrate environmental sustainability, resilience, and social considerations.
Guided by our core values, Apex’s practices already align closely with the CEBA principles, and we are applying them in new and innovative ways where we see opportunities to improve. This strategic approach not only advances the clean energy transition, but also sets a benchmark for responsible and sustainable project development in the renewable energy sector.
