Constructing Climate Solutions—and Careers
Meet the workers who are designing and building our energy future.
America’s first utility-scale wind farm was constructed in 1980—followed shortly thereafter by the first large-scale solar farm. In four short decades, the use of clean power has skyrocketed, and it’s quickly becoming the nation’s fastest-growing new energy source. It’s also driving job creation, from manufacturing to Main Street. Today, renewable energy powers jobs for more than 415,000 Americans, and two of the nation’s five fastest-growing job occupations are in wind and solar.
In Illinois, Ford County Wind generated more than 250 jobs during construction and powered jobs across the country—from Apex Clean Energy’s headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia, to General Electric’s manufacturing facilities in Pensacola, Florida, and beyond. Hear from the women and men powering America’s energy transition firsthand through their work to support Ford County Wind.
