Apex Wind Energy Is Now Apex Clean Energy
Charlottesville, VA – June 21, 2013 – Apex Wind Energy is now Apex Clean Energy. Though Apex’s mission remains the same – to bring clean energy resources to market – this name change signifies a formal broadening of the company’s scope to include utility-scale solar energy facility development.
Apex has a long heritage in the solar industry. In 2007, the Apex leadership team launched AxioPower, a utility-scale solar PV business that developed projects in the US and Canada. Axio secured over 100 MW of solar power purchase agreements prior to the company’s acquisition by SunEdison in 2011.
Today, Apex owns several small operating solar PV assets in Colorado. These facilities, totaling 1.2 MW of operating capacity, are located on rooftops in the Denver area. The company is now developing several utility-scale projects on federal and civilian lands around the country, all of which are greater than 10 MW.
Solar energy development is a perfect complement to Apex’s capabilities and mission. Many members of the Apex team have come from the solar industry where, in their previous roles, they had direct involvement in the development, financing, construction and operation of over 750 MW of solar energy in North America. The Apex team has comprehensive expertise in energy project development, all of which is directly applicable to solar. That includes resource assessment, GIS, real estate, environmental and permitting, project design, transmission and interconnection, technology procurement, engineering and construction, project finance and legal expertise.
In the future, Apex may add other technologies to its suite of clean energy solutions.
